Australian Languages Workshop 2008

28 - 30 March 2008

ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus

Program is available now!

Deadline for payment is 7 March 2008 (see below).

The Seventh annual Workshop on Australian languages will be held at ANU Kioloa Coastal Campus (http://kioloa.anu.edu.au/), about 200 km east of Canberra, from Friday March 28th to Sunday 30th, 2008. Australian Languages Workshop will be hosted by the School of Languages, Australian National University and Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies.

The workshop is a good opportunity to catch up with current research on Australian languages in a less formal environment. We have a program with both oral and poster presentations, as well as an excursion.  The workshop is also a good opportunity to get to know each other in a relaxed environment at the field station. If you would like to present a paper or a poster, please email a proposed title and brief description (or abstract which you will need to submit later) of your paper as soon as possible to Email Kazuko Obata.

Costs will be low, essentially limited to a food kitty ($40), a fuel contribution (applicable to only those who require transport) and accommodation ($56 for twin room share for two nights). You will need to bring your own linen and towel, but a set of linen, blanket and towel can be hired for $20. There are a limited number of single rooms ($112 for two nights), available to those who request first. Alternatively, you may organise your own accommodation away from Kioloa, but there are limited options and you will need to arrange your own transport. You will still be required to pay $12 per day to the Kioloa campus for the use of their facility. We are arranging transport from Canberra to Kioloa and return for those who need it. Information about access to Kioloa can be found at http://kioloa.anu.edu.au/directions/. Non-presenters are welcome to attend, but it is important that you register your intention with Kazuko Obata for accommodation booking and catering purposes.

Payment

Unlike previous years, we are unable to offer flexible arrangement for accommodation and are collecting the accommodation and food kitty cost beforehand. The number of people who have paid before 7th March will be provided to the Kioloa campus and we will be charged accordingly. We regret that the accommodation cost is not refundable after 7th March, unless you find a new participant to transfer the booking to. After 7th March, contact Kazuko Obata who will know whether accommodation is still available. To secure your accommodation, please transfer the total amount for accommodation and a food kitty, $96 (unless staying in a single room), into the account below before Friday, 7 March 2008.
