Cultural Landscapes and Tourism


Project background: The growing field of cultural heritage tourism is having an impact on heritage places of importance to Indigenous people, especially sites with rock-markings. Dr Ward has conducted fieldwork, including intensive field recording in conjunction with Traditional Owners of Country in the Wadeye-Port Keats area and with the staff of the Kanamkek-Yile Ngala Museum of cultural heritage places that are or are proposed to be subject to tourism.

Project Outcomes: He has collaborated with the museum staff and traditional owners on production and publication of materials of interest to the local community, and on a series of presentations and papers on this and related topics at national and international conferences.
