Session The camera story :  ways we connect - building community and sharing our lives using new media

Convenor: Samia Goudie, Inge Kral, Anna Cadden, Daniel Featherstone and youth community representatives

This is space will be for those who work or have and interest in working on projects where using new media forms and technology is part of the Picture ! Do you use cameras and other equipment , iphones , internet , software and computers to tell stories now ? want to share the excitement and challenges you face ? Do you want to , but not sure why ? or how ? During the AIATSIS conference we will be hearing from diverse mobs from all over Australia , who use new media and technology to archive , document , tell stories , maintain culture , promote literacy project , share news , have fun or keep in touch . Why do you use these technologies and what is your story ? How is it useful ? does it build community , help foster creativity , support leadership , contribute to our wellbeing ? In this space we would like to create a place where we can share some of these experiences , talk about the presentations given during the week ,and ask more questions of each other. It is a chance to network , share the diverse practices and unique ways we work in out communities and talk about how we can do things together , create exchanges and any other topic that you come with wanting to ask . As part of this time together , Lets make a challenge and in the time we have together lets make this time workshop and action based - To do this requires the imagination , creativity and innovation to organize ourselves that we all have - lets see what can happen when we come together , maybe a whole new way of doing things will emerge.

Please Bring cameras , or audio gear , computers or other tools you use and lets actively engage (with participant permissions ) in making a story about what discuss and do in this time. This is a way to show what we know , work together and learn something new . The outcome will be something ( a digital story a short film ) that we can share with our communities about this time together in Canberra . We could also use this to support writing a joint paper later for those who are interested , based on the experiences and themes we identify and share. The facilitation of this time will initially be introduced by Samia Goudie and Inge Kral, Anna Cadden, Daniel Featherstone and youth community representatives. However , as we all have so much to offer , it is envisaged that the process will be open and organic to a large extent.
