The annual National Native Title Conference is the largest Indigenous policy conference in Australia and is a flagship event for the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
This year, the Native Title Conference will be co-convened by the National Native Title Council and hosted by the Ngunnawal peoples, the traditional owners of the Canberra area.
The conference themes People, Place, Power reflect the significance of holding the event in Canberra, Australia’s capital, where major legal and policy decisions about native title have been made. This year the conference will address the following themes:
Proposals for papers and panels are invited for consideration by the conference conveners.
Please submit your proposal with an abstract and biographies, by Wednesday 31 March 2010.
To increase access to papers and presentations given at the Native Title Conference, we would like to film and or record your presentation. We may also take photographs and your presentation will be made available on the conference website after your presentation.
We would also like to be able to use the audiovisual material in other ways, such as in response to media requests about the public program and the subjects under discussion, and in Institute publications to report on the Native Title Conference. The AIATSIS Act ensures that these materials cannot be used in a manner inconsistent with the views or sensitivities of relevant Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people.
To keep a record of the meeting, the recordings will then be archived in the collections at AIATSIS. In the archive we would like to make them available for public access and for copying to other formats for preservation and access.
If your paper is accepted for presentation, you will be sent a form to indicate your instructions with regards to audiovisual recordings.
