The conference program is designed around ten
conference themes:
- Native title and agreement making
- What does native title mean for native
title holders
- National approach to native title policy
- Alternative funding models for greater
Indigenous autonomy
- Keeping native title out of court:
implications of recent decisions
- Compensation/ Extinguishment/ Settlement
- Mediating community disputes and healing
community trauma
- Native title decision making and good
governance
- The need for an integrated approach to
indigenous aspirations
- Native title in practise
These themes encapsulate the critical issues
that have emerged from eleven years of High Court decisions
and ten years of the Native Title Act. The themes look to
position of native title within the broader struggle for the
recognition of Indigenous ownership of lands, waters and
resources. They also seek to provide practical tools for the
daily challenges of operating under the native title regime -
– mediation, practise, and governance.
The social program will commence with a:
Welcome to Country Ceremony
