TI Access visit

29 April 2013 - Torres Strait visit showcases vast photographic treasures

The four-day access visit to Thursday Island last week was a huge success with over 450 visitors dropping in to view thousands of historical and contemporary photographs. In all, some 3000 requests for items were made. Importantly however generations of Torres Strait Islanders reconnected with images and recordings of island life and people - some never before seen.

Registrations for the 2012 National Native Title Conference in Townsville in early June are now open. Convened by the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) and the North Queensland Land Council (NQLC), the Conference will be held at Townsville’s Entertainment and Convention Centre from 4-6 June.
