At its first meeting with the Minister for Tertiary Education, Skills, Science and Research - Senator the Hon Chris Evans MP - the AIATSIS Council highlighted a number of funding issues currently facing the Institute.
Minister Evans invited the Council to meet with him in his Parliamentary Office in Canberra on Thursday 15 March during the Council’s two day meeting earlier this week.
In open and frank conversations, the Council raised a number of critical financial issues that the Institute is currently facing in the lead up to the May Budget.
In particular - the Institute’s annual budget appropriation, the potential non-continuation of the AIATSIS Digitisation Program past 30 June 2012 and the recent suspension of the Institute’s Grant Program.
Professor Dodson said that Council appreciated the Minister’s willingness to engage in these discussions and look forward to further meetings with him.
The Council extended an invitation to the Minister to tour the Institute to see first hand the diverse and exceptional work and capacity of AIATSIS.
