Document copying services


Individuals may request photocopies of articles, or a reasonable portion of books or of some manuscripts. There is a standard fee for each item. Refer to Library charges and turnaround times.

The Copyright Act allows a certain amount of copying of material if it complies with "fair dealing" conditions for the purposes of research or study. For print items this generally amounts to:

This means that in most cases it is not possible to photocopy a whole work, unless it no longer in Copyright, or if the copyright owner has given specific permission to do so. For more information about Copyright visit the Australian Copyright Council external website.

Requests must comply with the Copyright Act 1968. This means that a copyright declaration must accompany all requests. This declaration is incorporated into our Photocopy Request Form.

The form must be printed out and faxed or posted, as it is must be signed. A separate form is required for copying from Manuscripts.
