  • Microfilm and microfiche reader/printers - are available for materials in microform format. They operate by coin or by key, available from the Reference Desk.

Readers tickets

  • If you are intending to make ongoing use of our manuscripts and items from the Rare Book Collection, you will need a reader's ticket. You will be asked to complete an application form. In some cases, we will issue a reader's ticket for someone who is to visit the AIATSIS Library from interstate and needs to reserve material ahead.
  • Having a Reader's Ticket will allow the holder to reserve manuscripts and rare books on the web via Mura, the AIATSIS catalogue's Ecallslip facility.
  • You will be asked to provide some proof of identity when applying for a reader's ticket.
  • The tickets are issued by the Information Services Manager following a short interview dealing with the collections, services and procedures. These are issued free of charge.
  • Information is required only for your registration. It is not passed to third parties outside the Library.

Group visits

  • If you wish to bring a group to visit the Library, please use the booking sheet. The more notice you provide the better. This gives us time to locate materials that will be of interest to the group and to arrange for specialist staff to be available during your visit
  • Visits are also conducted by staff in the Audiovisual Archives, the Family History Unit and by the Native Title Research Specialist. Please contact them directly.
