Immediately after the Referendum, FCAATSI campaigners and supporters were jubilant at the overwhelming YES vote. On the Monday after the Referendum, Gordon Bryant was quoted in the Australian: “The vote is an overwhelming endorsement of the view that it is time for material action. The Government cannot hide behind constitutional inhibitions, nor can it hide behind a faith in public apathy. This vote represents a great national demand for action.” 1
The May-June issue of Rights and Advancement, sets out “The Next Move”. Stan Davey wrote:
“We would call upon the Federal Government”
*to establish a National policy on Aboriginal affairs based on the needs and desires of the Aborigines and Torres Strait Islanders, and to this end
*to immediately provide for a survey team of experts, similar to that established by the Australian Council of Social Services Aboriginal Project, 1964-67, to enquire into all matters relevant to Aboriginal affairs throughout the Commonwealth;
