The “Remembering Mission Days” website
is dedicated to the memory of
SHIRLEY ANN (KNIGHT) WILLIAMS
12.5.1947 – 28.10.2010
Passed away peacefully,
and missed by all.
Shirley was a much loved AIATSIS staff member
who contributed to the digitisation of the Mission journals
and to AIATSIS in many other ways.
Shirley’s family has contributed her own story here.

On this website you will find the magazines published by the Aborigines Inland Mission of Australia (AIM) – Our Aim and Australian Evangel.
The magazines are a rich source of information for Indigenous family history research.
- Our Aim: a monthly record of the Aborigines’ Inland Mission, published from September 1907 to May 1961, records the activities of the Mission at many locations in New South Wales, and later Queensland and the Northern Territory.
- Australian Evangel, published from September 1929 to May 1961, was produced for circulation to people on the missions. It contains gospel messages and other features, with contributions by Aboriginal people and lists of births, deaths and marriages at the missions.
These magazines tell of the experiences of life on the missions and reserves around Australia - the hidden histories of the lives of many Indigenous Australians. If you can help us fill in the missing issues of these magazines, please contact us.
