What is ASEDA?The Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS) holds computer-based (digital) materials about Australian Indigenous languages in the Aboriginal Studies Electronic Data Archive (ASEDA). ASEDA has materials including dictionaries, grammars, teaching materials, and represents about 300 languages. ASEDA offers a free service of secure storage, maintenance, and distribution of electronic texts relating to these languages. The Archive is available to language community members and to researchers in the field of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies. Availability of items is subject to depositors' access conditions. This catalogue describes items held by ASEDA. Further information is available in the FAQs, from the AIATSIS ASEDA page, or on request. How can I use ASEDA?You can deposit with ASEDA digital information on an Australian language (information produced on a computer, and sent to us by diskette, CD-ROM, or email). Depositors can state the access and use conditions to apply to their items. Use the general AIATSIS transfer form; contact us if it presents any difficulties.Or you can request items from ASEDA. First, identify in the catalogue the items you want. Then send email to request items, stating their code number and name. (If email is not available, you may write or fax your request, and items can be sent on removeable media.) In addition, please state your affiliation, and some provide some idea of why you want the items -- this can help us direct you to other items you may not have considered. Usually we will send you (by email) the data you request; often there are depositor's conditions which mean that you must sign and return an access form (usually by postal mail). What restrictions are there?Normal copyright restrictions apply, and there may be restrictions placed on items by depositors. A deposit and access form accompanies each item, specifying the type of access permitted. Some items' conditions must be verified are marked "Enquire". Please contact us about these items. However, given a completed access form, most items are freely available upon request by community members, and those with a research interest.Using this catalogueThe items in this catalogue are indexed by region, language name, item title, and item code. The item entries are arranged in either of the following ways: 1.
