Submitting a manuscript for publication
Aboriginal Studies Press (ASP) accepts unsolicited manuscripts for publication: both scholarly and general books. Check Find a Book to see the kinds of books we publish to make sure your manuscript fits out list. We occasionally publish theses, but usually only when the author has rewritten it into book form. Our assessment process
Manuscripts are read first by ASP™ staff. They are then provided to external peer assessors whose reports are sent to the Publishing Advisory Committee (PAC). The PAC and ASP staff advise the Principal who is our signatory for contracts. Visit Manuscript assessment procedures for more information.
How to submit your manuscript
You need to send these:
• a completed cover sheet: [PDF] 26.9KB [WORD] 107KB
• a proposal using either scholarly [PDF] 43.5KB [WORD] 113.5KB or
general [PDF] 38.1KB [WORD] 110.5KB books template
• 2–3 sample chapters (do not bind the chapters together)
How your manuscript should look
• use A4 paper, printed on one side of the sheet only
• use a readable type size (for example, 12pt Times Roman)
• set it out double-spaced
• use the ASP Publishing Style Guide for Authors and Editors for style decisions
Note: all manuscripts accepted for publication will be read carefully and edited.
Illustrations
If you would like illustrations included (for example, photographs, maps, graphs, etc.) attach good photocopies only. Do not send originals at this stage. If your manuscript is accepted for publication and you have used copyright material belonging to other people you will have to seek permission. See Permissions for information.
